For best results, combine the strength-building exercises in this chapter with other inexpensive forms of exercise that give a cardiovascular workout, such as walking (see Chapter 12) or using an aerobics video (see Chapter 14). And if you’ve never worked out before, see Chapter 5 for important information about how to monitor your workouts and make adjustments based on how you’re feeling.
For any of the exercises in this chapter, wear comfortable clothing (see Chapter 7). You can go barefoot, wear socks, or wear aerobics shoes. If you’re going barefoot, you may want to invest in an exercise mat that provides some traction. Look for these mats at any sporting goods store or through any store catalog that sells yoga equipment.
